Costa Dorada Beach

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Salt spray & slow mornings

Puerto Plata was the first stop on my Caribbean trip, and it set the tone perfectly. Costa Dorada turned out to be one of the nicest beaches I know, with calm water and a wide stretch of sand that made it easy to relax and enjoy the days. I spent hours simply walking along the shore, watching the light change and the waves roll in, and it never lost its charm.

The city itself has plenty to explore. I visited the Amber Museum, walked through Umbrella Street with its colorful canopy, and found street art scattered almost everywhere. Fortaleza de San Felipe added a historic layer to the visit, standing by the ocean as a reminder of the city’s past. Each corner had something interesting to discover, and the mix of history and creativity gave the city a lively character. Even short strolls through the center felt rewarding, with small cafés and local shops adding to the atmosphere.

Staying at the all‑inclusive Iberostar made things even easier, since I could unwind without worrying about meals or planning too much between outings.

One of the highlights was the Del Oro chocolate factory, where the smell of cacao filled the air and the tasting was a real treat. Combined with the beach and the city’s mix of attractions, Puerto Plata felt welcoming and fun, a great way to begin the Caribbean adventure.

It was the kind of place where relaxation and exploration balanced each other naturally, leaving me both rested and curious for what came next.
